About me

Chief came to us after him owner was no longer able to keep him. Chief is a sweet boy but we have found that he really has not had much experience of the outside world and can struggle when out on a walk. We have been working on this and Chief has improved and is starting to enjoy his walks. Chief is currently in a foster home because he was struggling to cope in the kennels, so he really does need to find the right forever home. Below is an update from his fosterers.

Chief is currently in a lovely foster home but we really are trying to him find his forever home! Chief is just about to turn 2, and is coming up to his six month mark with the RSPCA, and we can’t understand why he’s not had many enquiries. Chief really is the most beautiful boy, and is so full of joy and affection, despite his background, and is currently living with our own 4 yo female dog and happily shares beds, toys and chews.

Chief struggled in the kennel environment, particularly with the scary noises and other dogs barking which compounded the impact of his sad start in life. This means he can be a bit worried in the outside world (and at some things in the home, like tv remotes and rolling pins), but also super excited to experience it at the same time. He will therefore need an understanding and patient home who are willing to put in the work to help build his confidence and show him the ropes in new environments. Despite all this, Chief has come on really well and now walks with a nice loose lead (training will need to be continued) and can pass dogs at a distance calmly. We can even had him settle in a quiet pub garden!

At home, Chief has gone from strength to strength, and has learned 'sit', 'touch', 'look at me', 'down' and 'settle', and has graduated from only being able to handle 10 mins home alone to over an hour. Chief also used to be terrified of the car and is now very happy to hop in for his next adventure! Chief is also been very clean in his foster home, so may just need a quick refresher in his new home.

Chief could possibly live in a home with a playful female, as other dogs really give him confidence (he’s learned through our dog that ladders and tape measures aren’t scary), but he could also thrive as a single dog where his family can focus

100% of their attention on him in the early stages. He would need to be walked in quiet areas first, with slow exposure to strange dogs, alternatively if a potential family had some larger outside space, Chief would be perfectly happy keeping his world slightly smaller with his special people and canine companions. Chief is used to have big off leads in secure rented fields so this is something that would need to continue in his new home.

Chief will need an owner that has had experience with socialising dogs before. Chief could live with older secondary school children, as Chief can be a little nervous at first. He will need someone based at home to begin with and will then need a gradual build up to being left. Chief will need access to his own private garden with 6ft fencing and he will need to live in a quiet area. Chief cannot live with cats or small animals.

Chief is a real sweet boy who has not had the best start in life and is just looking for an understanding home that can help him become more confident. If you have the right home for him and the right female canine companion for chief then please send in an application form.
