About me
Benji came into our care when it was found that his owners were not meeting his needs both in the conditions he was living in and his untreated sore ears. When Benji arrived at Millbrook his ears were thickened and inflamed to a point where the vet could not see down them. After care and treatment he is now ready to find his forever home.
Benji is looking for a new family who have experience in caring for his type of breed such as French Bulldogs or other brachycephalic breeds. These breeds can suffer difficulty breathing (noisy breathing, increased breathing effort), exercise intolerance and increased risk of heatstroke. So exercise needs to considered and it is a good idea to offer mental enrichment alongside physical exercise to keep them entertained and prevent boredom. This breed can also suffer with ear issues and need their face folds kept clean. Although Benji's ears are now better he does need ongoing daily tablets to keep him comfortable and in tip top condition. His new family will need to keep him on medication for the forseeable future, follow their vets advice and be prepared to cover the vet costs.
Benji is happy chap who love attention and treats. He generally walks well on the lead but can pull at times when excited. When he first arrived at Millbrook he was unsure of other dogs and would bark. We have done a lot of training with Benji and he has got used to walking with other dogs but does need controllled introducing to new dogs. He is very food motivated and prefers to look at the person he is with for a tasty treat and his new family will need to continue this on his walks when he is in his new home. For this reason Benji is best as the only dog in his new home. Off the lead Benji has yet to learn to pick up a toy. Due to his anxiousness around dogs he will need to stay on lead in public and therefore have his own enclosed garden for off lead play.
Benji has not lived with children before so we feel he is best in a home with secondary school aged children although he may be able to live with slightly younger children depending on their dog experience and introductions here at Millbrook. He chased the cats in his previous home so is best not to live with them in the future.
Benji may need refresher house training but he is a very clean boy here at Millbrook so we feel he would be a quick learner in his new home. He is a little unsure of hoovers and mops so may need time to adapt to some things in the home environment but is happy with the sounds of TVs and radios. He will need someone based at home a good part of the day at first with time he is left built up.
PLEASE NOTE:
Our adoption teams will search through applications to find potential matches that meet all of the animals individual needs. They may contact you to discuss the adoption process and your application in more detail.
Millbrook regrettably is unable to keep a waiting list. However we are able to keep your application for up to 3 months to hopefully try to match you with another animal.
